HEIMDALL'S SENTINELS

❧ HEIMDALL'S SENTINELS

The sentinels are the first line of defense between Asgard and whoever or whatever seeks to harm them, or so Heimdall intends it. They patrol Asgard's borders, investigating any sign of threat, as well as loosely patrolling the streets with an eye out for any sign of unrest. Heimdall's sentinels can be called to the scene of an altercation that needs intervention, though they must be careful not to overstep and act as the hand of the law.

The sentinels, as a group, are also responsible for the battle-readiness of Wanderers outside the sentinels. Helping other Wanderers learn to fight, sparring with them for practice, and other such tasks are within the purview of the sentinals's overarching responsibility. In fact, some members of the sentinels may opt to adopt a teaching role exclusively, guiding fledgling fighters on a daily basis rather than participating in patrols and the like.

In times of battle, the sentinels are found on the front lines - not mandatorily, but via strong urging and promised reward.

❖ how being a sentinel works:
Each month, head over to the Participation Sound-off to let us/Heimdall if your character is actively participating in the sentinels' city guard, and to receive your character's patrol assignments. Nearly all of the sentinels serve primarily as a city guard - and as such, they primarily patrol the borders of our city. With our current number of sentinels, Heimdall is able to assign each individual a district to patrol twice daily, taking ~3 hours per patrol. These patrols ensure that nothing dangerous lurks on the fringes of the city, as well as keeping an eye or ear out for civil unrest. If danger is encountered, they alert the rest of the guard and hold the line until other sentinels arrive. If they come upon civil unrest that either has escalated to violence or seems likely to, they intervene to the best of their ability with intent to end the conflict.

Throughout the month, certain patrol routes will encounter issues of some sort. For the most part, these are currently moderately tame - but as the months go by and Asgard begins to encounter more and more overall danger, these encounters will escalate and can actually impact the city overall.

A tip line top-level exists for citizens and/or individuals from other gods' vocations to drop information that the sentinels need to know. For example, a scout who encounters a dangerous horde of chimera in the woods close to Asgard will ideally report directly to the sentinels so they can gear up to fight those chimera. Anything that reaches the tip line will then be posted by Heimdall in the Sentinels Needed top-level, where they can be claimed by sentinels who want to mobilize against whatever issue or threat is featured.

Another key feature of sentinel life that many choose to assist in is combat training + education. Combat educators typically host their lessons in Temjask Arena for accessibility reasons, but are welcome to do so anywhere they choose. There's no need for a combat educator to linger around the Arena unless they so choose - should a Wanderer desire combat training, they're simply to drop a request into the drop-box near the Arena's entrance (represented by the Combat Educator / Sparring Partner Needed top-level) and all fitting educators receive an alert.

Since we're moving into March, I'll go ahead and put up Terezi here.

She'll be enthusiastically conducting patrols during the evenings, since trolls are more nocturnal than they are day-time, and getting used to using her nostril based powers to sniff around town.
